Symbolism

The key reflects security, the lightning represents communications and engineering, the quill pen represents intellectual pursuits.  The conjunction of all three symbolize the professional field of the armiger as an officer in the United States Navy and professionally generally.  The coronet of mullets and anchors more specifically allude to the U.S. Navy, but also represents his Christian faith.
